Please contact us if you have other questions at info@crownheightsmusicschool.com or fill out an info request form to schedule a trial lesson.
Where can I wait for my lesson/ my child?
You're more than welcome to wait in our front lounge and enjoy free WiFi, water and a comfy seat.
Do I need to buy an instrument for myself/my child?
Yes. To make the most of your lessons, practicing at home is a must. Students will receive weekly assignments to practice at home. We expect students to commit to consistent practice, so having a piano, guitar or drum pad at home is necessary for progress.
For beginners, we’re happy to suggest affordable options, including basic keyboards and guitars to get started. If you’re interested in electric guitar, you'll also need an amp and guitar cables. We do recommend starting on acoustic.
Visit our instrument recommendations page to learn more about purchasing/ renting options. Drummers, don’t worry – practice pads are a great solution if noise is a concern.

What age is appropriate to begin music lessons?
We generally recommend starting lessons at age 6, but if a child shows a strong and genuine interest in an instrument, we may consider starting them as young as 5, on a case-by-case basis.
For 5-year-olds, we’ll consider piano if they’re in kindergarten. However, we suggest waiting until age 8 to start guitar, as it’s a more challenging instrument that requires finger strength and discipline to build callouses.
Do you also teach adults?
YES!! More than 65% of our students range from ages 25 to 50 years old! We teach all ages and all levels. It’s never too late to start learning or picking up where you left off many years ago.
Do you rent or sell instruments?
No, we focus on education. But if you're looking to rent or buy, we’re more than happy to point you in the right direction!
Can I sit in on my child’s private lesson?
For the first trial lesson we allow the parents to sit in on the lesson. After that we encourage parents to wait in the lounge area so that the student can be fully present and focused with their teacher and instrument.
Our teachers can let you know the best time to observe a portion of the lesson. After each session, they’ll always meet with parents or caregivers in the lobby to go over what was covered that day and what the student should focus on practicing at home for the week ahead.
How long should I practice?
There are no strict rules, but as a general guideline, beginners should aim for about 15 minutes of practice each day, while advanced students may need an hour or more. For intermediate players, 30 minutes is usually a good target.
The key is to establish a daily routine for the best results! Even if you only have a few minutes, playing for just 5 or 10 minutes is better than nothing.
Can I have more than one child in the same lesson? Do you do group lessons?
All lessons are one-on-one, tailored to each student’s needs. Our instructors customize every lesson to match the right amount of material for each individual, as everyone progresses at their own pace. Since each student has unique questions and goals, splitting a teacher’s attention between two students means neither gets the full focus they deserve.
